Problem Statement
Lack of organized markets, leaving farmers vulnerable to middlemen.
Inconsistent quality standards, making it difficult to penetrate high-value international markets.
Inadequate post-harvest handling and storage facilities leading to quality loss.
Project Goal
To enhance the productivity, quality, and export of organic sesame from Northern Uganda by creating structured market opportunities for farmers and positioning Uganda as a leading exporter of high-quality organic sesame.
Sustainability
The project will ensure sustainability through strong farmer cooperatives, long-term contracts with buyers, reinvestment in value addition facilities, and the promotion of organic farming practices that conserve soil fertility and biodiversity.
Objectives
To export 16,000 metric tons of certified organic sesame annually from Northern Uganda.
To strengthen market linkages between smallholder farmers and international buyers.
To ensure fair and sustainable income for farmers through structured off-take agreements.
